MODEL FOR BREAST CANCER RISK

The Paradigm of Breast Cancer Causation and Prevention initiative has resulted in a dynamic model of breast cancer causation. Learn more about the model.

Priorities

CBCRP takes two paths to support critical breast cancer research in California: investigator-initiated and program-initiated.

Our current funding strategy was launched in March 2010 by the California Breast Cancer Research Council after three years of intense analysis. (Read the full funding strategy (pdf) or watch a video summary.)

INNOVATIVE IDEAS, TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Fifty percent of our available funds are applied to investigator-initiated research projects that focus on highly innovative ideastranslational research, and community participation and address the following topics:

PROGRAM-DIRECTED INITIATIVES

The remaining 50 percent of our yearly funding is set aside for program-initiated research on the critical topic of policy research and the prevention of breast cancer and expanding on the research from the program's existing Special Research Initiatives, which examine the role of the environment in breast cancer and the reasons behind the unequal burden of the disease. By narrowing our focus to the areas where we have the greatest impact, we continue to lead the nation in meaningful advances against breast cancer and provide applicants with strong opportunities for success.
